Can't connect to Sql Server 2005
limited user. When I start the Management Studio I can't see any data base.
I checked that the service is started and I tried creating a new start
sesion with the name of the limited user in the domain (as I did in sql
server 2000) but it doesn't work.
What else can I do?
Thank you very much."alberto" <alberto@.nospam.es> wrote in message

Log into SQL Server as an administrator and create a login for your limited
user, assigning that user either server roles, or database access as
appropriate.
David|||I just did it but I still can't connect. As limited user I don't see any

I don't know whether it was caused by reinstall. Before reinstall, I can connect to the server, but it's edtion is group version. And edition for client is also group version. Any one can help me? Thank you very much!

Cannot connect to *.*.*.*.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233)

Can't connect to Reporting Services after I rename my computer
I have installed SQL 2005 on my Windows 2003 box. After I install SQL
2005, I have configured the Reporting Services and I can connect using
the Management Studio. I had to rename my machine and after I renamed I
can still connect to Database Services from Management Studio. However
I am getting error while I connect to Reporting Services. I have also
tried sp_dropserver <old> and sp_addserver <new>,'local'. It still
doesn't help.
Can someone help me out with fixing this issue.
Thanks,
Prasanna.Prasanna,
When I had the same problem, I ran RSConfig.exe.
Check it for the apprpriate paraemters.

Cant connect to remote server
I recently reinstalled SQL Server 2005 on a new computer, and now I can't connect to remote SQL servers for some reason.
When trying to access the remote server with SQL Management Studio or DTS I get the following error:
----
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)
For help, click:http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=53&LinkId=20476

I'm certain the servers I'm trying to connect to allow remote connections so the fault must be on my side. Does anyone have any idea what the cause and solution might be?
Rydeman:
I'm certain the servers I'm trying to connect to allow remote connections so the fault must be on my side.
The default behaviour of a new sql install is to NOT allow remote connections until they are specifically enabled. Since you are dealing with a new install, i'd check the server settings to be sure:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277
|||So for it to work both instances of sql server has to be configured to allow remote connections?
Because the reinstall is on the local client computer, the online servers are untouched.
|||yes may be it will work after re-install u have enable the TCP-IP connection in sql-server configuration managerCan't connect to remote MSDE with ODBC
database from a remote computer with ODBC. I can connect just fine from
within the workgroup.
In Cliconfg, I have set up an alias pointing to servername.com\INSTANCENAME.
tcp/ip is set. There is not a firewall in play at this time. The server is
also configured to use TCP/IP.
Is it possible to connect to a remote SQL server with ODBC? This is really
frustrating.
I did the same drill with mysql and it is a piece of cake, but I really need
to use SQL server in this instance.
BradI just figured out my problem.
I reviewed the server logs and found that the server was listening on port
1212. So, with cliconfg I set up an alias to use this same port.
Man, what a relief to finally get this figured out.

When I try to register the instance to a remote Enterprise Manager or when I
try to create a dsn from another machine to the new instance I get a "SQL

Cant connect SQL2K named instance using OLE DB
I am having a hard time trying to connect to a remote SQL Server 2000 named
instance using an OLE DB connection, the computer I am trying to connect
from has SQL Server 7 installed, but MDAC 2.6 SP1 (which should be
sufficient?). Errormsg below:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005'
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access
denied.
/asp/test.asp, line 5
The remote server is listening on TCP/IP, port 1434
I am using a sql-login. The remote server is in mixed mode.
I've tried connect using Query Analyzer in order to troubleshoot the
problem, and came to the following conclusion:
- If i add an alias for the server in Client Network Configuration,
and configure the connection to use TCP/IP, 1434, then I'm able to
connect to the remote server using Query Analyzer. However,
my asp-page still won't work.
- If i don't add an alias, but run Client Network Utility and add
TCP/IP (port 1434) as first protocol, and Named Pipes second
protocol... then I am not able to connect using Query Analyzer or
the asp-page. How come?
The code in test.asp looks like this:
<%
dim objC
dim rs
Set objC = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
objC.Open "Provider='SQLOLEDB.1';" & _
"Persist Security Info=True;" & _
"User ID='myusername';" & _
"Password='mypassword';" & _
"Initial Catalog=mydatabase;" & _
"Server=REMOTESERVER\INSTANCE;" & _
"Data source=REMOTE SERVER\INSTANCE"
objC.Execute "SELECT * FROM [dbo].[EverybodyListens_Employee] WHERE CGid =
'aviklund'"
%>
Some rows of the code above are wrapped.
REMOTESERVER is the remote server,
and INSTANCE is the instance name.
Thanks!
