Can't find SQL Profiler after Install

I have installed SQL Server Express, the configuration tools as well as the SQL Server Management Express However, I need the SQL Profiler. Where or how does this get installed with SQL Server Express?

Profiler does not come with SQLExpress... it' only available with full blown SQL Server 2005 editions, as reported in http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinfo/features/compare-features.mspx

Any way to install a named instance without a sql server 2000 CD! I need to install a named instance TODAY but can not find the CD. Or any where I can download the install so I can create a named instance

Can't find rsactivate.exe

I've spent a few hours bashing my head into the wall - no matter what I install and uninstall, I can't seem to get setup to put the rsactivate.exe file into my sql server 2005 installation. Without this tool, I can't get sql reporting working. Can anyone tell me step by step what I need to do to get this tool installed?

rsactivate.exe does no longer exist and is no longer needed in RS 2005.

There is a new graphical configuration tool (Reporting Services Configuration Tool) and you can use rsconfig.exe / rskeymgmt.exe to configure the report server.

Most likely the account that is configured to run the RS Web service (typcially Network Service) does not have any file system permissions to access the installation directory and consequently cannot access the configuration file.

In general, setup would set the ACLs correctly on those folders. However, you mentioned that you ran through multiple install/uninstall cycles, so something with the ACLs may be messed up.

One approach you should try is to start the RS configuration tool, go the web service account and (re-)apply the account settings.

Looks like it was a conflict with sharepoint services. I found a KB article on this, and now everything seems to be resolved. I also found that I needed to run rskeymgmt -d to clear our the previously created keys before I could proceed.

I have problems also with Reporting Server SQL 2005 reinstallation. I am using the configurer and have restarted the installation many times, deleting each time the bases and web sites.

When I start the navigator to reach http://localhost/report server, I receive the message that the access to the file intepub/wwwroot/web.config is refused

there no reason that this file be accedded for Report Server and I dont'know what to do to find a solution

Can't find microsoft.sqlserver.execpackagetaskwrap.dll in Sept CTP

I'm trying to find the following reference for a VS2005 C# project but can't see to locate it on two of my machines which uses Sept CTP install (Ent & Dev) both with SQL2K already installed:

Namespace: Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.ExecutePackageTask
Assembly: Microsoft.SqlServer.ExecPackageTaskWrap (in microsoft.sqlserver.execpackagetaskwrap.dll)

The only thing that I can find is ..\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\Binn\ExecPackageTask.dll

Is that the same thing or am I missing something? Thanks.

Cant find installer

I'm trying my first install of MSDE 2000 and having some
difficulty. I downloaded the package, then extracted it.
Then read the entire readme telling me all the
requirements and such. I then opened a console window,
and tried to install it. I made my changes to my .ini
file and referenced that on the command line. I'm
getting an error message however that says this. "The
installation package could not be opened. Verify that
the package exists and that you can access it, or contact
the application vendor to verify that this is a valid
Windows installer pakcage".
I went to the knowledge base and the only thing I could
find as a possible problem was that I have SQL server
running all 16 instances on my machine, but this is my
first install ever so there's no way that I have any
other instances running. Please help!

This may be belaboring the obvious, but you did navigate to the directory
where MSDE was extracted before issuing the install command (or, include the
fully qualified path to the install file in the command), correct?

Can't Execute Package from BIDS Solution Explorer Post SP2 Install

Yesterday, SQL Server 2005 SP2 was installed on our DEV Server (Windows 2003 SP1 x86) and now I cannot right-click a package in the Solutions Explorer window in BIDS and Execute Package. When I do, I get the following error

I know I could do this yesterday morning pre SP2. I've attempted this with a couple of different packages and solutions, so it is probably not a corrupt package (unless now they are all corrupt). I can execute in debug mode if I open the package first and then hit Start Debugging. However this is not always an optimal solution because I sometimes have many connected packages and sometimes what gets executed is not what is expected.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm having the identical problem. If I create a new package, it will work for a short period of time. I didn't measure the time precisely, but it is within 15 minutes and an hour or so. I appreciate your run-in-debug solution, but it is still not a clean fix.sql

message that it was too old of a version. I am not sure if there is a script

We attempted to reload the Adventure Works DW in Analysis Services 2005 after a previous install. We first dropped and uninstalled the sample OLTP databases, then removed the previous install using the add/remove programs tool. We then installed the samples again using the AdventureWorks Data Warehouse Database and Analysis Services Project, attached the two databases to the database engine, and then attempted to deploy the Adventure Works. sln project using the Business Intelligence Development Studio. We encountered the following error when we processed the AdventureWorks DW Standard Edition database in Analysis Services:

Error 1 OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: Communication link failure; 08S01; Shared Memory Provider: The system cannot open the file. ; 08S01; Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'.; 28000; Cannot open database requested in login 'AdventureWorksDW'. Login fails.; 42000. 0 0

Please note that we used the configuration manager to enable named pipes and allow remote connections. We also, renamed the target server (to the named server instance instead of the localhost), disabled any Windows and Norton firewalls, and changed the deployment server edition to the Evaluation version in the Adventure Works DW Property page.

Nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Then click "View Designer" and fix the connection string to use my named instance and Windows Authentication.|||

To assist with troubleshooting, could you please try editing the data source in the project, and in the dialog:

- go to "Impersonation Information" tab

- choose to use "Specific User Name & Password"

- enter an NT user name and password that you know has read rights to the DB

Then try to redeploy and process.

We then installed the samples again using the AdventureWorks Data Warehouse Database and Analysis Services Project, attached the two databases to the database engine, and then attempted to deploy the Adventure Works. sln project using the Business Intelligence Development Studio. Please note that we used the configuration manager to enable named pipes and allow remote connections. We also, renamed the target server (to the named server instance instead of the localhost), disabled any Windows and Norton firewalls, and changed the deployment server edition to the Evaluation version in the Adventure Works DW Property page.

Nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I also ran into this problem (can't deploy lesson4 Analysis Services Tutorial) but I was able to solve it by opening the project in Developement Studio and right click on "Adventure Works DW.ds" under "Data Sources" . Then click "View Designer" and fix the connection string to use my named instance and Windows Authentication.|||

To assist with troubleshooting, could you please try editing the data source in the project, and in the dialog:

- go to "Impersonation Information" tab

- choose to use "Specific User Name & Password"

- enter an NT user name and password that you know has read rights to the DB

Then try to redeploy and process.
