cant download/install adventureworks.sln
adventureworks and adventureworksdw databases installed. I am missing the
adventureworks.sln (adventure works project files). I tried to install
adventureworksBI.msi but I got an error that the adventureworks database is
already installed. I tried renaming the adventureworks database on the
server to something else and tried the install again but I got an error
message that it was too old of a version. I am not sure if there is a script
I need to run that will instal the project files, Any ideas? thanks.

I guess it's about Sql Server Samples. Did you download the latest version
from the following link:
http://www.codeplex.com/SqlServerSamples/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=4000
After installing it, you'll find the AdventureWorks(VB\CS).sln VS solution
file in the following path:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\90\Samples\Engine\Programmability\CLR\Adven tureWorks
If this is what you are looking for...

Can't create databases in Management Studio
I seem to be having a number of problems using managment studio (MS) against my locally installed SQL 2005 Standard Edition. E.g. when I create a default database using MS it says...
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&LinkId=20476
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
The server could not load DCOM. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7404)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=09.00.1399&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=7404&LinkId=20476
However, the hyperlinks are less than helpful. I also get problems doing various maintance work from MS. I don't think its a database engine problem 'cause I can do all the work via TSQL DDL but the interface is so much easier to use (or should be). BTW it's running on XP Pro (firewall problem?).
I've also found an Event Log entry but don't know what it's asking me to enable...
Event Type: Error

|||Finally sorted it out. It was the NVidia client to the motherboards Hardware Firewall that was causing the problem. I had to remove that to get IE7 working and now SQL Server is creating databases!

Can't copy databases across network with copy wizard
I am receiving the following error:
'Your SQL Server Service is running under the local system account. You need to change your SQL Server Service account to have the rights to copy files over the network.'
I have gone into services and set up the appropriate account to log unto the network servers with system admin priviledges but this does not solve the problem. Any step by step help would be appreciated.

You would need to change the destination server to run under
a domain account. Then you need to restart SQL service.

Sue answered you correctly. However you will have good results also if you are just willing to take the DB offline temporarily and copy over the files. Then you can attach the DB at the destination. This can be done without shutting down either server.

Can't connect to SQL Server 2005 Express
PLEASE HELP ME
I ran the upsize wizard on one of my databases to SQL Server 2005 Express. I can connect to it just fine. I have 3 test users and they cannot. They get the following:
Connection failed:
SQL State: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 11004
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (Connt()).
Connection failed:
SQL State: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 6
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL server not found.
I tried adding the SQL Server to 1 users System DSN, but I got this message:
Connection failed:
SQL State: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 53
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connt()).
Connection failed:
SQL State: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 17
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
What am I doing wrong?
See my whitepaper on Connecting... http://betav.com/blog/billva/2006/06/getting_and_staying_connected_1.html
I expect that you you have not properly configure the SQL Server instances to be visible on the network--they are hidden by default.

Cant connect to SQL server
By default the database connection string is configured by SQL express and I do not know how to change it.
Not all, it is said that just upload everything to the server and that's all but it is not that. To work with database I had to use SQL server 2005 to upload the database by using import wizard and import tables into the database folder in my server. Do I need to do them same with membership and role database? I tried but it still says error .
I am just beginer so need help form you, the masters.
The URL show error is www.tinhtran.com/Default.aspx
thanks
Hi,
take a look at this site for connectionstrings. Personally, I find it strange that you don't get the correct connectionstring from the helpdesk.

Can't connect to databases through Enterprise Manager
work with this stuff.
We have client software that uses SQL 7 as a database.
Winpak is a door access software made by Northern. It
stores proxy card info, access levels, historys, etc. in
a SQL 7 database. I know the databases are still there
because Winpak connects and I can pull up info.
This started because I noticed whoever set up the primary
and archive databases pointed them both to the same file
name. I backed up the primary and deleted it. Restored
it with the full backup and made sure it was pointed to a
different file name. Everything worked fine and still
showed up in Enterprise Manager. I restarted the computer
later and tried to go back into Enterprise Manager. Tried
to expand 'SQL Server Group' to list all the databases and
I got an error saying, "A connection could not be
established to COMPUTER - Cannot open user default
database '<ID>'. Using master database instead. Please
verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server
registration properties (by right-clicking on the COMPUTER
node) and try again."
My services were running just fine and when I checked my
registration properties everything looked fine. Redid the
registration properties with no luck. Using NT
authentication and even making a new one. The other
problem is that somebody set this thing up 3 years ago and
I have no idea what the 'sa' password is and I have tried
every simple password I can think of. I am checked out
the knowledge database articles matching my error message
and they didn't realy help cuz I either needed the 'sa'
password or I don't know how to impliment the solution
based on my limited knowledge of SQL. I need to do a
final backup to move all the info to a new machine with
SQL 2000. I am really stuck (and screwed) if I can't get
that info off cuz we just entered in a few hundred more
employees so using an old backup isn't going to save me.
Help would be greatly appreciated
Hi,
It seems the Login ID you are using is defaulted to the database you have
deleted. That is the reason you are getting the error.
How to change the SA Password,
1. Login to Query analyzer using Windows Authentication
2. Execute the beloe command
sp_password null,'passwordsa',sa
(now the password for sa is passwordsa)
How to change the default database of your existing users, which gave error
1. Login to query analyzer as SA
2. execute below statement
sp_defaultdb <loginame>,<new database name>
3. After this you will be able to login using the old id itself.
Thanks
Hari

|||Thanks for the post. It more or less led me to a
solution. I tried using NT authentication with no
success. Realized the machine was running on the admin
account with no password. For giggles I made a new admin
account with a different user name and an actual password
and tried again. Low and behold it worked. I got into
query analyzer and changed the sa password. Problem
solved. Thanks again.

database '<ID>'.
Help would be greatly appreciatedHi,
It seems the Login ID you are using is defaulted to the database you have
deleted. That is the reason you are getting the error.
How to change the SA Password,
1. Login to Query analyzer using Windows Authentication
2. Execute the beloe command
sp_password null,'passwordsa',sa
(now the password for sa is passwordsa)
How to change the default database of your existing users, which gave error
1. Login to query analyzer as SA
2. execute below statement
sp_defaultdb <loginame>,<new database name>
3. After this you will be able to login using the old id itself.
Thanks

solution. I tried using NT authentication with no
success. Realized the machine was running on the admin
account with no password. For giggles I made a new admin
account with a different user name and an actual password
and tried again. Low and behold it worked. I got into
query analyzer and changed the sa password. Problem
solved. Thanks again.

Cant connect to database
Ok I have several sites on a server that have connected to databases on a different server for a long. Out of the blue today none of the sites on the server can connect to any databases on the other server. However, sites on other servers can connect to databases on the same db server.
This is the message I get:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection tothe server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may becaused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does notallow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 -Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
The database server runs SQL Server 2000not2005 I can connect to the database from desktop (with an asp.net application or sql server management studio), I can ping the database server fine from the production web server, but my applications can't connect for some reason. There is nothing in the event log to suggest a problem, any ideas what could be causing this?
Take a look

||| I saw that in my searching, I don't have access to the production database server and it works fine from every other computer. The network people tell me everything on the firewall looks normal, so I think that means it has to be an issue with the web server, I'm just dumbfounded by why this would happen so suddenly.
Hi,
From your description, since other website server can connect to the database server, so it seems that the issue is not caused by database server side.
I don't know what kind of security mode you use in your connection string, you have mentioned that you were managed to connect to the database via enterprise manager, are you using SQL authentication? If you are using Integrated Security in your connection string, can you make sure if the account of your web server has the access right to the database server. If you assign your database's userid and password explicitly, can you make sure if the user has been listed in the Logins list of your database server?
Actually, in order to check the issue, you may deploy the application which can't connect to the database to another web server, and try to check if it can work. If it can, the problem should be caused by the settings of that web server.
Thanks.

Cant connect remotely to SQL Server
I just reinstalled SQL Server and after reattaching my databases, I can't connect remotely. If I use "localhost" in my connection string it works fine, but I can't register my remote Enterprise Manager this way.
I have looked around and made sure that my SQL Server installation has the same name as my computer and I checked the networks settings for SQl Server and it says it is using port 1433 (as expected?). I can't ping port 1433, nor can I connect if I put :1433 in the connection string (is that normal?) I am no network expert so I am not sure of the expected behaviours. I am digging through the Internet for a solution (Microsoft Support is a bit pricy to be anything but a last resort for us), but I thought I would ask here in case someone has a suggestion.
Any help is appreciated.
SP4 was not installed properly, so SQL Server was not listening on port 1433. All fixed now!

EmmaI just realized that I am only having problem connecting to one particular
db. I can connect to the other db on the server use the USE command in Query

stating that it is executing query batch...
Any idea how I can correct this problem? The log file for the offending db
is full and I am trying to shrink it using dbcc.
