can't get diagram pane to show in query analyzer (sql 2000)

I'm trying to use SQL query analyzer and I can't get the diagram pane to show
or the grid pane.
Kaz,
Is this a table? Does this happen for other tables? How about a new table?
Do you have permissions to the table?

|||I go into query analyzer from start - programs - Microsoft SQL Server -
query analyzer and connect to the database to start a new query.
If I go into Enterprise manager and go to open a table using Query I get all
4 panes -Diagram,Grid,SQL, and the Results pan.

Can't find objects

I have a database with a bunch of objects owned by a user named, "tims". I a
m
logged into SQL Query Analyzer as the tims user, but I can't locate objects
unless I use I qualify them with the owner name. For example,
exec sp_select_corridors #doesn't work
exec tims.sp_selelct_corridors #works
BTW, this was working before. I recently did a DTS import on another
database on this server. I am wondering if the tims login got messed up. If
so, how would I fix it?

can't find Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer after setup

I downloaded the trial version of sql server 2005. but after installation, I couldnt find the Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer. Any idea about that? Thanks.

I believe those services can be configured from control panel (turn windows features on or off). Check the boxes next to enterprise manager services and query analyzer, then ok, and windows wil configure and update for those services.

Which Edition of SQL Server 2005 do you download? If it is SQL Server 2005 Express, such tool is not included. Please try SQL Server 2005 Expree with Advanced Services, which includes tools. You can get it from the same download website as SQL Server 2005 Express.

MSDE doesn't listen to any netlibs by default. You can enable netlibs using the svrnetcn.exe utility.

Can't connect using 'localhost' but '127.0.0.1' works

I'm trying to connect to SQL Server using the string 'localhost', but I
always get a timeout error using either Query Analyzer or ADO. But if I
change the string to 127.0.0.1, it works.
A 'nslookup localhost' returns 127.0.0.1. If I run 'telnet localhost
1433', it connects. Any idea why I might not be able to use the string
'localhost'?

Cant connect to sql server 2000 from asp.net

I installed sql server 2000 on a remote server. I can connect toit from the client with query analyzer, but I cannot connect to it fromASP.NET. I'm using Sql authentication, and the account has everypermission under the sun. I can also connect to it from theserver explorer in visual studio.net. I turned off thefirewall. I tried connecting with the same asp.net code from adifferent computer and still no luck. I've triple-double-checkedthe connectionstring. It's the same credentials I'm using forquery analyzer and server explorer, which both work fine. Anytroubleshooting tips would be GREATLY appreciated.

This is weird, I can connect to a sql server from a windows 2000 server (UDL, Query Analyzer, ect.), but cannot connect from a Windows 2003 box.
Anyone else experience this? Could there be an MDAC version issue?

Try creating a test ODBC DSN to connect and reply back with the exact error
message.
You need to get the OS error to resolve this.
Example: OS Error 10061 == Connection Refused.

|||I got the same problem, but after install the Client Tools, the Enterprise
Manager says timeout.
Same prob when trying to create a DNS to check connection.
Still Eror: 0 SQLSTATUS: HYT00 Timeout
|||Timeout issues may be resolve simply by increasing the LoginTimeout Value
in Enterprise Manager. The default value is 4 seconds which may be too
short.

Can't connect to MSDE with Query Analyzer

I'm running MSDE on a WIN2K and I'm having a problem accessing the MSDE from
a laptop with WINXP Professional. I'm using a NETGEAR MR314 cable router w/
firewall to connect the two computers and I'm getting the following error:
Unable to connec to server SERVERNAME
Server: Msg 17, Level 16, State1
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or
access denied
I've tried by creating a new account with owner rights to all databases and
I still get the same error when connecting with Query Analyzer. When I get
the "Connect to SQL Server" dialog box I can see the server but when I enter
the user name an password it gives me the error message.
To start with, run the following command using ISQL.exe
ISQL -Stcp:ServerNameHere -Usa -Ppassword -Q"select @.@.version"
The reason why I am asking you to do this is because this will help you in
troubleshooting the error. Try looking for the OS Error returned.
I am suspecting that the server is not listening on the port and you can
try to restart MSSQLServer and can verify that SQL is listening. Hope this
helps.

Cant connect SQL server by Enterprise manager but no problem by Query analyzer

I cant connect SQL server by Enterprise manager, then i try to connect it by Query analyzer it works !
I have 2 SQL servers get the same problem, no matter how many time i try,
Even I set the timeout to900 seconds, I still got the message in Enterprise manager..

Help me please..!

Reason: Timeout expired.

Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server registration properties
(by right-clicking on the xxx.xx.xxx.x node) and try again.I have been able to get this working by going to the Client Network Utility and switching the primary network library from TCP/IP to Named Pipes or vice-versa. No idea why some machines prefer one over the other, but life would be boring, if we did not have these little things to keep us up all night ;-).

EmmaI just realized that I am only having problem connecting to one particular
db. I can connect to the other db on the server use the USE command in Query
Analyzer. When I try to connect to the offending database, QA just hangs
stating that it is executing query batch...
Any idea how I can correct this problem? The log file for the offending db
is full and I am trying to shrink it using dbcc.

first? You can execute the statement from master.
