Can't find Report Viewer/Explorer WebPart (SP v3+SQL 2005)

Hello all,
I'm new with SP v3 and the Reporting Services of SQL Server 2005.
I did a prototyp report and show it with "SQL Reporting Services
Report"-WebPart, but I can't find the WebParts Report Viewer and
Explorer in the WebPart Gallery.
Please, could somebody give me a clue where the problem could be, or
how I could isolate the problem area.

MarcHave you uploaded the web parts to the SharePoint site? I don't think they
come preinstalled with SharePoint.
On the server with SQL Server 2005 installed, you should find the web parts
in a cab at
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Reporting
Services\SharePoint\RSWebParts.cab
Copy the Cab file to your SharePoint server and install it using Stsadm or
any other program you use to deploy web part packages (cabs).

can't find maintenance plan wizard in MSS2005

Hello,
I use sql server 2005 standard edition, sp1 installed on win2003server.
I can't find the maintenance plan wizard in the object explorer in the
management-studio.
In documentation I found out, that the user connection must be done via
windows authentication and you have to
be a role-member of sysadmin (what does this mean exactly?).
Furthermore databases must have a compatibility of 80 (MSS2000) or
higher.
I met all conditions, but I still can't use the wizard.
Any ideas how to make the wizard 'visible' or is there a command line
statement to call it?

Already the item 'Maintenance Plans' under Management is missing !!!
Only under the subitem Legacy there is a item 'Database Maintenance
Plans'.
But rightclicking there doesn't show the wizard-item.

You did what I did - didn't install SQL Server Integration Services. The
Maintenance Plan Wizard (and the interface to plans from SMSS) is part of
SSIS. Install SSIS from the SQL Server CD and you should get it working.

You did what I did - didn't install SQL Server Integration Services. The
Maintenance Plan Wizard (and the interface to plans from SMSS) is part of

Can't Execute Package from BIDS Solution Explorer Post SP2 Install

Yesterday, SQL Server 2005 SP2 was installed on our DEV Server (Windows 2003 SP1 x86) and now I cannot right-click a package in the Solutions Explorer window in BIDS and Execute Package. When I do, I get the following error

Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (Microsoft Visual Studio)

Program Location:

at Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Project.DtsPackagesFolderProjectFeature.ExecuteTaskOrPackage(ProjectItem prjItem, String taskPath)

I know I could do this yesterday morning pre SP2. I've attempted this with a couple of different packages and solutions, so it is probably not a corrupt package (unless now they are all corrupt). I can execute in debug mode if I open the package first and then hit Start Debugging. However this is not always an optimal solution because I sometimes have many connected packages and sometimes what gets executed is not what is expected.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm having the identical problem. If I create a new package, it will work for a short period of time. I didn't measure the time precisely, but it is within 15 minutes and an hour or so. I appreciate your run-in-debug solution, but it is still not a clean fix.sql

Can't Create New Database on Device via ActiveSync

In VS2005 RTM using

Server Explorer -->
Right Click DATA CONNECTIONS -->
Add Connection -->
Datasource=Microsoft SQL Server Mobile Edition--> Data provider = .NET Framework Data Provider for SQL Server Mobile Edition-->
ActiveSync Connected Device

when I hit Test Connection I hear ActiveSync's connect sound and I get this error

Microsoft Development Environment

Microsoft 5QL Server 2005 Mobile Edition and/or NET Compact Framework v2.0 is not properly installed on your mobile device or the device is not responding.

Has anyone experienced this? I can very easily create the database on my desktop, but even though the option to use activeSync is offered, it does not appear to work in VS 2005 RTM.

Is that true?

Hi Wil,

Creating a DB on a device over Active Sync is a prime feature and it works very well too in VS 2005 RTM.

Here are the things you should check:
1) Did Active Sync detect the connection and turned green?. And, which Active Sync version are you using, Is it the latest or the old?
2) Is your device running the supported Windows CE Version?
3) Are you able to browse files & folders on the device using Windows Explorer?
4) Did you do any uninstallations and installations in the mean time? Check whether the SQL Mobile data provider is listed in .NET Framework config file machine.config.

|||Yes everything was still not working correctly and I reinstalled everythnig.

Turned out that VS2005 wasn't depolying CF2 and the SQL Mobile Database engine properly on the device or the emulator.

I had to manually install the CF2 and the SQL mobile DB engine for it to work. The error message VS2005 gave didn't help at all with tracking this down.

|||I have the same problem to at Visual Studio. I try to fix the error using this step.
1. I install the compact framework using NETCFv2.wm.armv4i.cab file. Status done.
2. I install the SQL CE database server using Mobile first, you can find it at folder
drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SmartDevices\SDK\SQL Server\Mobile\v3.0\wce500\armv4i
The file list are :
- sqlce30.dev.ENU.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB
- sqlce30.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB
- sqlce30.repl.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB
3. I've got the error like described above, the error also raised on Emulator too, so i uninstall the SQLCE
4. I instal the SQL using Client, you can find it at folder :
drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SmartDevices\SDK\SQL Server\Client\v2.0\wce500\armv4i
The file list are :
- sql.dev.ENU.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB
- sql.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB
5. There no error again on Emulator, but on Visual Studio still have the same error.

You can simply run sqlmobile30devtoolsenu.msi file again to install Mobile Development Tool. This file comes with the VS 2005 Pro distribution in wcu\SQLCE folder.

Cant create database. VS 2008. Need help.

I just installed VS 2008.

I opened the Server Explorer window and right clicked on Data Connections and selected "Create New SQL Server Database".

Then I selected the Server Name and wrote the database name. I have Windows Authentication selected.

When I click OK I get the error:

"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connection to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provides, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Could someone, please, tell me what I am doing wrong?

It's a connection problem. Are you sure you have typed the correct server name? Also note there could be firewall issues which block your connection. I would suggest you connecting the database server

through mangement studio frist and see if the server is reachable from your machine.

Can't connect Report server at management studio and report manager at Explorer

I am using 2003 Server standard Edition (5.2.3790), SQL SERVER 2005 (9.00.1399) and IIS 6.0

When I tried to open the report manger at Explorer as typed http://servername/reports, http://localhost/reports, http://127.0.0.1/reports

I got an error : HTTP 404 : file not found

At testing connection on SQL server management studio, got an error -> the request failed with HTTP 404 status (Microsoft.sqlserver.management.UI.RSClient)

My configuration details as belows;

1. IIS 6.0 configuration

I made reports and reportserver virtual directory on Default web sites.

<<Default web site>>

Web site > Port 80, IP address : all unassigned

Directory security > checked Enable anonymous access

<< Report manager>>

Virtual directory >C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager

ASP.net -> C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager\web.config

(enable default content pages : home.aspx)

Directory Security > checked at Integrated Windows Authentication

Have you tried running the configuration tool? It should walk you through making sure that the server is properly configured.

Start->Microsoft SQL Server 2005->Configuration Tools->Reporting Services Configuration

I've already done by reporting service configuration tool and checked every condition that was OK. But the result was same error messages.

Do I reinstall reporting service ?
