can't find Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer after setup

I downloaded the trial version of sql server 2005. but after installation, I couldnt find the Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer. Any idea about that? Thanks.

Hi zhishan,

I believe those services can be configured from control panel (turn windows features on or off). Check the boxes next to enterprise manager services and query analyzer, then ok, and windows wil configure and update for those services.

|||Thanks djartsinc - do you know where on the control panel has the function? I spent a long time trying to find, but couldn't...|||

Which Edition of SQL Server 2005 do you download? If it is SQL Server 2005 Express, such tool is not included. Please try SQL Server 2005 Expree with Advanced Services, which includes tools. You can get it from the same download website as SQL Server 2005 Express.

can't download ms sql 2005 free trail version

hi was looking forward to downloading the 180 day trial version of ms sql server 2005. Signed up and everything. when it loaded the download page it only has the 2 help files listed. Has the free trial ended? if i download the full express version does that have a free trial?

hi,

to me all works as exptected... in the middle of the page you can find a section reporting:

"Instructions

Enterprise Evaluation Edition is available in two downloadable formats: an image file that you can use to burn your own DVD, and a self-extracting executable file that will allow you to download and install without a DVD burner"

where you can download the ISO images or the direct self extracting executable

at the end of the page, the link you "reported" are in the section"Files in This Download

The links in this section correspond to separate files available in this download. Download the files most appropriate for you."

and these are additional downloads, the readme file and requirements in order to install SQL Server 2005..

Can't Deploy AdventureWorks Database

Hi All,

I created a named instance of SQL SERVER 2005 (Evaluation version) on Windows XP pro, attached the AdventureWorks and AdventureWorks DW databases to the database engine, and tried to deploy the AdventureWorks DW (Enterprise and Standard) database in Analysis Services using SQL SERVER Business Intelligence Development Studio.

For some reason, I encountered the following error (after deployment during processing):

Error 1 OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: Login timeout expired; HYT00; An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.; 08001; Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]. ; 08001. 0 0

Please note that I used the configuration manager to enable named pipes and allow remote connections. I also, renamed the target server (to the named server instance instead of the localhost), disabled my Windows and Norton firewalls, and changed the deployment server edition to the Evaluation version in the Adventure Works DW Property page.

Nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Raj

Hi,

We also experienced a similar problem deploying the AdventureWorks DW using the Business Intelligence Development Studio. Our error is as follows:

Error 1 OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: Communication link failure; 08S01; Shared Memory Provider: The system cannot open the file. ; 08S01; Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'.; 28000; Cannot open database requested in login 'AdventureWorksDW'. Login fails.; 42000. 0 0

This error occurred after we had dropped and uninstalled the sample databases from a previous install. Please note we downloaded the samples from Microsoft and used the AdventureWorks Data Warehouse Database and Analysis Services Project to install the databases.

We are having the exact same error. Did you all find a solution?

I'm moving this post to the Tools forum since this isn't a setup or upgrade issue.

G'luck.

|||Hi everyone!
I just had the same problem and solved it. What you have to do is:
1) Right-click the project name, and choose properties
2) In the deployment tab change the server name from localhost to your instance name
3) Double-click the data source in solution explorer
4) In General tab click Edit to change the connection string
5) Choose Native OLE DB\Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
6) Type in your server name
7) Select the AdventureWorksDW as database name and click OK
Now the deployment should be successfull...|||

Try:

Double click on AdvantureWork.ds from DataSource (From Solution Explorer). and in Impersonation Information Select the Use the Service Account.

Can't connect using SqlClient after creating new database.

Hi,

I am writing a c# console application that allows you to update a database to a specified version. It does this by running a set of scripts that are listed in an xml manifest.

The application also provides an option to create the database and then run scripts to update it.

I have a method that reads blocks of SQL from each script and runs them using the ADO.NET classes in the SqlClient namespace.

I am finding that after the application runs the script to create the database, the first time the application tries to connect to that new database the connection attempt fails. The error I receive is :-

Cannot open database {dbname} requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user {user}

I find that if I set the thread to sleep for 3 seconds after the database is created, I can then connect without the error occurring, but this is a bit of a nasty hack. I'd prefer to find a better solution.

This is occurring against a local SQL Server Express instance.

My machine is reasonable. 3.4 Ghz. 2Gb RAM, so I wouldn't have thought there's any problems in that regard.

Does anyone have any pointers, firstly as to why this is occurring, and secondly, how I might solve this problem in a nicer way?

Thanks,

David.

Hi David,

This is strange behaviour. Are you using Windows auth or SQL auth? Also, are there any errors written to your error log?

Thanks,
Il-Sung.

|||

Hi ll-Sung,

Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you about this.

My SQL Express is set up for Windows Auth only, and I am connecting as such.

The exception I receive when I try to connect after creating the database is :-

Cannot open database "DatabaseName" requested by the login. The login failed.

Login failed for user 'Domain\UserName'.

Both the SQL Log and the Windows Event Log display a series of informational messages that occur during the creation of the database. Things like :-

Setting database option ANSI_PADDING to OFF for database DatabaseName

Also in the logs, I receive a Failure Audit error message. This occurs before any of the informational messages occur. It looks like :-

Login failed for user 'Domain\UserName'. [CLIENT: <local machine>]

However this login failure message appears whether or not the database creation succeeds or not (ie the process succeeds when I have my Sleep command in).

So overall, I guess there is no error in any of the logs indicating why this is occurring.

The SQL I am using to create the database is a script that I made simply by scripting off the db in Management Studio. I did not muck around with this at all except to put placeholders in for the database name.

Any further help you can provide for this would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

David.

Cant connect to SQL server

I have a SQL server hosting version 2005 and support ASP.net 2.0. Evrerything works just fine with other databases. However when I use Web Configure supported in Visual Studion 2005 to define the membership and user control and upload all files and folders to the server. It never works. I says can not connect to SQL server. The help guy from my hosting says it does not support SQL express and they do not support that.

By default the database connection string is configured by SQL express and I do not know how to change it.

Not all, it is said that just upload everything to the server and that's all but it is not that. To work with database I had to use SQL server 2005 to upload the database by using import wizard and import tables into the database folder in my server. Do I need to do them same with membership and role database? I tried but it still says error .

I am just beginer so need help form you, the masters.

The URL show error is www.tinhtran.com/Default.aspx

thanks

Hi,

take a look at this site for connectionstrings. Personally, I find it strange that you don't get the correct connectionstring from the helpdesk.

can't connect server

I'm using light free version of SQL server 2005 and

Express Manager , until this time everything was OK. But now I cant using it , I cant connect the server (using windows connection) .

That is error alert:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)

Does anybody know where is problem?

Have a look in the screencast section on my site, especially the Screencast "enable remote connections"

That should help, feel free to comment about that.

HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.

Thanx for link, but things don't changed(

I'm programming on C#, then compiler get on conn.Open() it shows an exeption:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Where is the problem?

|||OK, first make sure that the service is started properly on the machine which is named in the connectionstring. Could it be that there are any firewalls blocking the communication ? YOu will have to open port 1433 and 1434 for a proper established communiation if you have choosen the default port. If you did not choose the above mentioned default ports you will have to open them in the firewall and if you don′t have SQL Browser started as a service on your machine (which is a sort of discovery mechanism for the clients connecting to SQL Server) name the port after the Servername\instanceName combination. Thats the next part which will lead me to the question if you have a default instance or a named instance. default instances are normally only represented by the machinename they are running on, named instances have the instance name appended in the following format Servname\InstanceName. If you additionally don′t have browser started (as mentioned above the name combination would be something like ServerName\InstanceName,Portnumber)
